CAMBRILS

Cambrils costa dorada

Between sea, flavours, and Mediterranean soul

In the heart of the Costa Daurada, Cambrils preserves something that many sun-and-beach destinations have lost: authenticity. Despite its reputation as a fishing town, life here is still measured by the tides, the market, and the scent of freshly landed fish at the port. Cambrils is not visited, it is savored. It is sea, history, and Mediterranean rhythm.

Day 1: The port, the essence of Cambrils

The journey begins by the sea, where everything happens. The Port of Cambrils is the soul of the town: boats leaving at dawn, nets drying in the sun, the sound of seagulls, and fishermen chatting as they unload their catch. From the pier, the view stretches to a calm horizon that reflects the local philosophy: work, share, enjoy.

Strolling along the Seaside Promenade, among palm trees and the scent of salt, is the best way to start the day. Terrace cafés, bicycles, children playing, and the murmur of the sea accompany every step. At midday, the market offers the best of the land and the sea: squid, prawns, cuttlefish, and the famous Cambrils “galera”, the undisputed queen of local cuisine.

Cambrils proudly —and rightly— calls itself the gastronomic capital of the Costa Daurada. In the port and the old town, restaurants abound where the product takes center stage: fish stews, rice dishes, fideuàs, and grilled fish that embody the seafaring tradition.

In the afternoon, a visit to the Cambrils History Museum or the Port Tower, dating from the 17th century, helps explain how the sea and trade shaped the character of its people. And as the sun sets, there is nothing better than sitting facing the Mediterranean with a glass of Priorat or Montsant wine, brought from the nearby mountains.

Day 2: Between history, cycling, and gastronomy

The second day invites you to head inland toward the Old Town of Cambrils, a network of narrow streets that preserves the essence of an agricultural village. In the Plaça de la Vila, the weekly market takes place, where locals buy fruit, cheese, olive oil, and artisanal bread.

From there, you can follow part of the Olive Oil Route, visiting mills and cooperatives that still produce liquid gold using traditional methods. Cambrils’ extra virgin olive oil is considered one of the best in Catalonia: fruity, balanced, and infused with the same sun that ripens the Baix Camp olive groves.

The afternoon is ideal for sports. Cambrils is part of an extensive network of bike lanes that run along the coast to Salou and Miami Platja, perfect for discovering the landscape at a relaxed pace. You can also practice sailing, kayaking, or paddle surfing, or simply let yourself be carried by the rhythm of the sea.

Back at the port, the day ends with a dinner by the sea: brothy rice with lobster, fresh fish of the day, or a simple plate of baby squid with white wine. In Cambrils, every meal is a tribute to the Mediterranean.

Day 3: Sea, calm, and nature

The third day invites you to enjoy the nature surrounding the town. Very close to the centre lies the Fishermen’s Park, a green space by the port created by the fishermen themselves as a tribute to their craft. It is the perfect place to rest under the pine trees before continuing on to Samà Park, a historic, colonial-inspired garden just a few kilometres from the town.

For sea lovers, La Llosa Beach or Regueral Beach offer calm waters and fine sand. Those seeking a more natural setting can follow the coast to Vilafortuny or L’Horta de Santa Maria, where the coves become more intimate and the landscape wilder.

Sunset is the most magical moment. From the breakwater, the sun slowly sinks into the horizon as the port returns to silence. Cambrils then reveals its true nature: a place where the Mediterranean is not just a landscape, but a way of life.
